August 17th. 2006. It had been five months since your initial car crash, and only a few days since being discharged from the hospital. Your parents stayed at your apartment to help you, but they soon had to return home. They didn't leave you alone, though, of course not.

A soft sensation brushed against your cheek as you stirred in your sleep. The caress was tender, prompting a faint smile to form. Soon, the realization of your solitude to hit you. You shot upright, the ensuing pain overshadowed by a rush of adrenaline. "Who the hell are you?" you exclaimed.

The man sighed and propped himself up, unfazed. You noted that he was in pajamas, & he seemed to have just risen from sleep as well.

"Art. Your boyfriend." Art replied, his tone heavy with sorrow. Art? The name didn’t ring a bell for you. Art sensed your bewilderment, "Doc mentioned you might not recall. I held onto the hope that you would." His hand gently clasped yours, stroking the back of it. "Your parents told me I could come over to help," he continued.

You looked down at his hand that held yours, "I…" you trailed off as your eyes met his again. "It's alright, baby. You'll get your memory back," his voice soft for you, a small smile on his lips.

The reality was— he wasn’t your boyfriend. He never had been. But now he was, and that's what truly counted. He first saw you passing by in the hallway. You were flawless.

He always watched you from afar. At games, parties, and school, it didn't matter. But once he learned that you were in a coma, he began to visit regularly. That was the closest he had ever been to you. He met your parents at a grocery store, not by accident. They told him about your condition and how there was a high chance that when you woke up, you would suffer from memory loss. How'd he get so lucky?

He loves you dearly. It was merely a matter of him seizing the opportunity, not taking advantage of you, no. He would never harm you. You deserved someone like him, someone entirely devoted to you.
