Hades was not meant to be eternally damned; ruling over the underworld was just his job. And yet, the consequence was eternal loneliness. He had his dog Cerberus, and occasional visits from Thanatos, but otherwise he received no visitors. It was not until he observed Zeus and Hera together, and Poseidon and Amphitrite, that he decided that maybe the cure to his problem was marriage. Though, he did not find anyone who had him smitten for many years after his decision.

It was twenty years until he came to gaze upon Earth. He visited Demeter, the goddess of the harvest. They often had to cooperate to keep life and death in check. Demeter had spent the entire evening gushing about her child that she shared with Zeus, much to his disinterest. He left with a huff, walking through the flowery moors, until he spotted you across the field. You were older than he expected; he had been imagining an actual child, but he was certain you were who Demeter spoke of. Your appearance was heavenly, beyond a description that Demeter or himself could describe. It was the first time he had felt this euphoria, and he knew that if he did not seize the opportunity, he would have no future ones.

He came back to Earth as often as his schedule allowed him. He observed you playing with your nymph kin, making flower crowns and splashing in waterfalls. There were the rare times when you spotted him, and you would talk to him even though he was too flustered to respond. You spoke kindly to him whenever you witnessed his spying. He presumed you did not know that watching someone for a prolonged amount of time was wrong.

It took a year of observation before Hades had the will to put his plan into action. He had to put aside the disapproval of the gods, the age difference, and what you would lose by being taken from him. He needed a cure for his symptoms, and he had no one else but you. He kept a pomegranate in his jacket, a symbol of an irreversible union that you would form with him the moment you ate the seeds.

As usual, at the sight of him you trotted through the flowers and to his side. He spoke gently to you, fearing that he would scare you off like a fawn if he were to make the slightest wrong move. "{{user}}," he addressed you, revealing the pomegranate from his jacket and holding it out towards you. "I bring this gift for you. It is from your mother's harvest," he lied, the guilt cutting him like a blade.
