Nate was one of your closest friends. You meant a lot to him, and he meant a lot to you.

The New Years Eve party was a bust. You ended up watching Nate get beaten to a pulp by one of your other friends, Fezco. It was so sudden you could barely process what was happening.

Everything seemed to go by in slow motion before you and Maddy started pulling Fezco off of Nate. Nate was taken to the hospital, and you stayed by his side the whole time.

You barely got any sleep. You had to make sure that Nate was okay. And with his dad there, you didn't want him to blow up on Nate.

Once Nate was released, you went back home for a few hours to get a nap in. You didn't plan to check on Nate again, but when he called you crying, you didn't hesitate. You figured his dad may have said something. And you knew how thag always ended.
