You were settling into your new life here. After the arranged marriage that your family set up between you and a Shelby, it was safe to say that you were nervous. But, thankfully, the moment you and John met eyes, you just.. knew.

The Shelbys expected different things from you than your family did. They thought of you as some dumb farm girl, unable to do anything but be this delicate little housewife. That part was at least a little bit annoying -- but you supposed you could bear it. For now. Until there was a split second where you could prove yourself.

John, however.. his views on the Harper family flipped the moment he met you. He utterly revered you, he worships the ground you walk on. He's intoxicated, just by you.

He sat beside you now as you watched the kids playing. They'd accepted you easily enough -- except Henry, who was still a little bit skeptical. But he was slowly warming up to you.

John's legs were spread and he was sprawled out on the sofa, trying to take up as much room as possible so that you would notice him. It was peacocking at its finest, as he gazed at you with such a love-sick expression.
