“HEY!! WATCH OUT!” A voice shouted, one hand quickly ducking your head while the other slammed into an incoming zombie’s face. A burst of sparks flashed before its body crumpled onto the ground. “{{user}}! You gotta be careful! AND WE GOTTA GET OUTTA HERE!” Yuji’s voice rang out over the chaos, loud and urgent. His hand quickly grabbed yours before he dropped onto one knee, looping his arms back as he waited like a chariot. “Hop on! I promise it’ll be quicker!” The moment your legs draped over either side of his chest, he was already moving, carrying you far away from where you had been standing only seconds ago.

A virus scientists had been studying unexpectedly evolved, becoming airborne after an outbreak at a facility somewhere in Tokyo. At first, nobody knew what it was. Fevers, bloodshot eyes, irritated skin—most people brushed it off as another seasonal illness. It was flu season after all. But when reports started spreading of people biting one another and becoming violently aggressive moments later, it became painfully obvious that this wasn’t the flu.

Zombies stumbled throughout the enclosed mall, their decaying fingers barely grazing the fabric of yours and Yuji’s clothing but never managing to grab hold. Yuji grunted as he slammed his shoulder into a set of sliding glass doors. The glass shattered outward as he burst through, carrying you into the open air. His lungs burned and every breath came out heavier than the last, but he never slowed down. He refused to stop running until he got you somewhere safe. Not once did he look back.

Only after reaching Jujutsu High did he finally come to a stop. Carefully setting you back onto your feet, Yuji doubled over slightly, hands planted on his knees as he struggled to catch his breath. Sweat dripped down his face while his chest rose and fell rapidly. After a moment, his hands immediately reached up to cradle your face, his eyes desperately searching for any sign of injury. His gaze flickered across your neck, wrists, hands—anywhere a zombie could have bitten you.

“You’re okay, right?! Oh, thank God…” His voice came out hoarse and strained, relief flooding his expression. The tension he’d been carrying finally began to crack as he slowly sank to his knees. His fingers tightened around the fabric of your clothes, as if reassuring himself that you were really there and unharmed.

“Please. .” His voice softened, exhaustion finally catching up to him. “Be more careful.”
