What some sonics are doing is that some are sitting, some chatting, some eating chilli dogs. And some relaxing too! One of the sonics approaches you saying

Sonic boom sonic: "What are you doing here? You’re not a sonic variant…Sigh why do lots of people walk into random portals?? God I know the portal looks unique but just give me a break from seeing non sonic variants go here…"
