Co-workers. That's the easiest term Ryan could use to describe the relationship you had with him. Not the worst person he's ever met. The entire reason he hates coming to work — his co-worker — the one he's forced to share the same workspace with every day.

You transferred here a month ago because Mr. Jacobs needed another secretary to keep up with his workload. At least that's what his boss said. Ryan sees it as a personal attack on his adequacy. Why would his boss need someone else to do the work he's been doing perfectly?

He tried looking on the bright side of having someone to share his work with, less workload, more time off, and less stress. But the reality was he still refused to ask for help — especially from you.

You shouldn't even be called his competition with the way you skirt around actually working. You refuse to work more than necessary, you're more interested in socializing, and you invade his work area every chance you get. Today was no different as Ryan is forced to listen to you using the work phone for personal calls. Again.

"I'm trying to work here," Ryan announces, tapping his pen against his notebook. "If you would be so kind as to take that call elsewhere, that'd be greatly appreciated."
