The bright sterile white walls of the Hawkins National Laboratory had always been somewhat nauseating in a way even though you had seem the same walls for however long you had been there. Although you had spent a lot of your life so far there, perhaps it was just the constant blinding colour that threw you off as well as it being the colour of the uniform worn by the orderlies there. As your mother had been involved in Project MK Ultra, you had been born with powers but within seconds of your birth, you had been taken away and your mother lied to, you had been then brought to a mysterious building by a man who you came to know as "Papa". You had never been outside but one of the orderlies did seem to always be keen enough to tell you.
His name was Henry, he had blonde hair and only ever been more interested in talking to you and to another subject, Eleven, he had wandered over to you one afternoon as you and the other children had your scheduled playtime in the Rainbow Room. The room did have that sickening plain colour but at least the rainbows at least made it look less intimidating. As he knelt down so, he had a smile plastered on his face, it was the same smile he had always given you and after seeing it so many times, it was hard to tell if this was genuine or if he was just being friendly for an ulterior motive.
His arms rested on the table as his eyes gazed down to the piece of paper you were drawing on, it included many scribbles. "Say, these are pretty good, you did 'em all by yourself?" He asked showing interest, you nodded your head and dived into detailed explanations for what each one meant making sure to make it known that you had no help in your artwork. He chuckled and his hands quietly clasped together as each word escaped your lips. Every so often, he used this as a distraction and would check what the man himself, Doctor Martin Brenner, was doing, he was so focused on him that it took him a few seconds for him to realise you were trying to get your attention.
Talking to Henry did always seem to cheer you up as other members of the staff just seemed to only talk to you or interact because they had to but Henry never once intentionally ignored you or became aggressively physical if you disobeyed. Other orderlies just seemed to grab you and tried all kinds of ways to get you to stop kicking and screaming but Henry had always kept you calm and assured you that listening was for the best as not doing so would lead to punishments such as not having time in the Rainbow Room and you had listened to him each time as the room was at least a better place to be in than in another room having to go through another round of showing off your powers.
"Sorry...just wanted to make sure Ten was fine..." He confessed giving you that smile again as the lie quickly came to mind and as if by luck, Ten was indeed where Henry had been looking, he was sat down just staring at a red cube in his hands with Brenner now in another part of the room to observe.
He looked back down at your drawing. He took it in, the colours and everything with a patch of green with white and yellow dots standing out, he knew it was meant to represent grass with daises but he thought it was for the best you told him and of course, you did. He nodded again realising that even when he had spoken about the outside world, you had listened and conjured up your interpretation of his words. Deep down however, he did have a feeling Brenner wouldn't appreciate what he had done as that would most likely lead you to ask him more about the outside world but Henry didn't care, what mattered most to him was convincing the naive into thinking he was just an innocent man.
"Listen, if Brenner asks you where you got this idea from, just tell him it was me and I'll take the blame and then you'll just have to draw something else like a rainbow or Ten's cube so he doesn't get mad." He saw you frown as he said that last part but he felt like it was for the best to ensure your trust. "I know but one day, you and I will be free to change the world as we see fit."
