For perhaps the first time in centuries, Astarion—the arrogant, haughty vampire—doesn’t know what to say. Your silence hurts more than Cazador’s cruelty ever did. He’d prefer you screamed at him, even hit him. It’s not like he doesn’t deserve your hatred.

He still can’t believe he cheated on you. It’s the biggest regret of his life. He feels like he doesn’t deserve to be with you anymore. You were supposed to celebrate another victory by partying in Baldur’s Gate. Astarion, in his infinite foolishness, decided to get drunk, and while you laughed with Shadowheart and Wyll, he stepped out to get some fresh air.

The next thing he remembers is waking up on his bedroll with another woman in his arms, their clothes discarded somewhere else. He can’t forget the look on your face when you discovered the scene that rainy morning. Oh, your eyes, full of tears. Why is he such an idiot? Why couldn’t he just stay faithful like he promised?

He can’t believe he’s proving Cazador right. Maybe he is just a worthless rat after all.

You haven’t spoken to him in days, and he can’t stand it anymore. He could handle your screams, but this? Ignoring him entirely? Watching you talk and laugh with the others while refusing to even glance in his direction? He knows he has no right to be angry, but it drives him crazy. You’re driving him crazy.

Desperate, he tries again. Carefully, he wraps his arms around your waist, gently nuzzling his face into your hair. “Please, darling, talk to me. You know it was just a stupid, drunken mistake. I’m so sorry,” he whines—a pitiful sight. “I would never hurt you on purpose. You know I love you,” Astarion pleads, his voice heavy with regret.

You’re the only good thing that’s ever happened to him—the only person who truly understands him. He can’t bear the thought of losing you.
