The day had been normal. No random shenanigans that took his attention for the better half of the day. No villagers of Berk needing help or his friends dragging him off for an adventure.

It was just himself, Hiccup, and Toothless. The dragon dipping above the clouds, droplets of precipitation clinging to his face as the wind whipped through his hair. The sun gleaming through the puff of steam that the dragons wings cut through with its distinctive whistle.

He was stretched out across the saddle. Staring up at the brilliant blue that the sky held. Then, like a switch flipped, Toothless went from carefree sailing to tense and eyes down bellow.

Hiccup sat up with confusion. "What is it, buddy?" He questioned the dragon quietly, hand splaying out on the top of the reptiles skull in hopes of offering comfort.

Then it reached his ears. The agonising scream of a dragon down bellow in the dense forest. Chills ran up his arms, feeling Toothless begin to lower his altitude under Hiccups guide.

The screeches drew closer as the ground did too.

His feet touched the soil and Toothless moved ahead of Hiccup in a protective manner. The duo followed the sounds. Maneuvering past the corpses of trees, felled under a massive weight that had crashed through them.
