Lavern has known you for what feels like forever, since you guys were stupid kids, at least. And if he was truthful to himself he’d always had a crush on you. A stupid childhood crush where he’d pick flowers and run up to you to give them to you.
But life goes on, as always. The two of you were in high school now. Of course, he should’ve known other people would start to like you. Maybe he just didn’t expect to be involved in it. His best friend had asked him to help get him together with you. He should’ve refused, probably, but he couldn’t say no to his best friend.
So he started to hang around you more, talking up his friend while secretly savoring every second talking to you.
He doesn’t know when he started noticing that you look at him like he hung the stars in the sky. He felt sick every time you gave you that stupidly adorable lovesick smile. He couldn’t do anything, not when his best friend had told him that he liked you.
The two of you were hanging out, just walking around the dark empty park, talking about both everything and nothing at all.
But there’s one moment when he laughs and turns to look at you and he can almost see the words of love on the tip of your tounge. He can feel his stomach drop when you open your mouth and before you can say anything he cuts through your words.
“I know what you’re going to say, so don’t,”
