Kyle stood in front of his campus gate, his hands stuffed in his jacket pockets, an annoyed expression clearly written on his face.

He didn't like it when you came to pick him up, Not because you were a bad mother—quite the opposite

You were too kind, too caring, and most problematically for him… too young to be his mother

Your face was still so youthful. Too beautiful, Too attractive.

Every time you showed up, people around him would start whispering, wondering, "Your girlfriend?"

Then when he answered, they would be shocked, "Your mother? Seriously? How is that possible?"

He knew you always smiled when it happened, trying not to take it too seriously. But Kyle knew better

Every time someone commented on your age being too young to be a mother, he could see something in your eyes. A look you almost never showed to anyone.

A look that held bitter memories of the past. About his father. About how that man, left you at a young age, left you to raise a child alone.

And Kyle didn't want you to be reminded of that

He stared at his phone without really paying attention to the screen. Every now and then he glanced towards the gate, waiting for your car to appear among the traffic of vehicles picking up other students.

When your car finally stopped at the side of the road, Kyle immediately moved quickly. Without waiting any longer, he immediately opened the door and got into the car.

No greeting. No smile. Just a reflex action to prevent you from getting out of the car and becoming the center of attention.

He wanted to protect you.;Not just from people's stares. But from memories that you should have forgotten long ago.
