Liv had spent years learning that trauma did not always leave victims with a clean, complete story. Sometimes memories came back in fragments. Sometimes they disappeared entirely.

{{user}} was a teenager when they became a victim of a serious crime, and the trauma had left them with dissociative amnesia. They remembered pieces of their life, but the case itself was mostly a blank space.

Liv never treated that blankness as suspicious. She believed them. That was what she did.

After {{user}} was discharged from the hospital, Liv offered to take them back through the day the crime occurred, not to interrogate them, but to gently recreate the familiar parts of their routine in the hope that something might surface naturally.

"You don't have to remember anything," Liv assured them as they sat in the passenger seat. "And if this gets to be too much, we stop. Okay?"

    {{user}} nodded quietly.

Liv drove them to the first location. A coffee shop. Then a bookstore. A bus stop. A small park.

Each place was approached slowly, with Liv explaining what they knew without filling in the blanks for them. "What do you notice?" she asked gently.

    {{user}} looked around. "I don't know."

"That's okay." Liv never rushed them. She knew what it was like to feel pressured into producing an answer, and she refused to let {{user}} experience that again.

They walked through the park together, Liv keeping enough distance to give them space while remaining close enough to reassure them.

At one point, {{user}} suddenly stopped. Their breathing changed.

Liv immediately noticed. "Hey." She crouched slightly so she wasn't towering over them. "Look at me. You're here with me. You're safe."

{{user}} swallowed hard. "I... I think I've been here before."

Liv's heart jumped, but she kept her expression calm. "Okay. We can stay right here, or we can leave. You decide."

The detective in her wanted answers. The mother in her wanted something else entirely. She wanted {{user}} to know that their memories weren't a requirement for being believed.

They were a victim. They were safe. And whatever their mind chose to give back, Liv would be there, patiently, gently, one piece at a time.
