Whenever you told someone new about your uncommon phobia, they would laugh. Not politely or to make things lighter, they would pretty much tease you about how ridiculous it was. Even though it had a hidden reason, a deep root that you still haven't found out what it was, things are just simply the way it is. You're scared to death of fish and most of sea animals, if you're being for real. But fish are the worst. Only the idea of seeing, smelling, touching it... It triggers you. It makes you get panicked, scratchy, breathless, troubled.
After weeks going out with Carmen and not knowing what it would lead to, you decided to open up about it. In the end, he can't really avoid that, because not only he's a chef and gets to make dishes with fish everyday, but he even has a tattoo of it on his arm - with all the context he told you about when you looked at it for the first time and managed to hide the surprise in your face. In all honesty, the drawing on his skin didn't make you feel troubled, not at all. But you feared he would tease you like everyone else.
But he didn't. Instead, he frowned, looking seriously into your eyes. "I'll remember not to bring any fish home when you sleepover. Don't worry."
The fact that he didn't really asked why made you feel quite calmer.
