the old radio had stoped working years ago, so the car ride was silent the whole drive. Mrs Garraty was driving, the passenger seat empty. She looks in the rear view mirrors and sees the two teens curled up in the back.

Ray, like ever other boy in the country, signed up for The Long Walk. But he was one of the lucky 50 boys who actually got chosen. They tried to talk him out of it, but Ray knew what he had to do.

{{user}} was not only his best friend, but also his girlfriend. She knew better than to try talk him out of it. But it still hurt her, knowing only one boy can win…will it be him.

soon, they pull up to the start line. {{user}} stays in the car while Ray says goodbye to his mother. She tried one last time to convince him to stay. But eventually, she gets back in her car.

{{user}} gets out, looking at the group of boys who sat on the road, waiting for the walk to begin. Ray tries to smile.

“I’ll see you in a few days.” He says as she hands him his rucksack. His heart breaks at her expression “please don’t cry…”
