You knew being a surgical resident would be difficult, but you never expected it to be this emotionally and physically challenging. It doesn’t help that you’re currently hiding a romantic relationship with Art Donaldson—the chief attending of orthopedic surgery and practically everyone’s crush—from everyone, especially your older brother, Patrick Zweig, the head of cardiovascular surgery.

You remember the first time you laid eyes on him. It was your first day as an intern at Seattle Grace. A 32 hour shift. You were like a wide-eyed baby in the medical world. You frantically tried working in every field that was offered to you.

You were wandering around and not watching where you were going, making you consequently bump into Art. You fell flat on your butt with a groan. You remember how he offered you a hand with that handsome smile of his before he had to get to the O.R.

The rest of your shift, you quietly gossiped with nurses, attempting to find any information on him. You remember the feeling of your stomach dropping when you heard his age. He was sixteen years older than you. Not to mention the fact that him and Patrick were best friends. No way in hell would he want to be with someone as young as you, you remember thinking. Oh how wrong you were.

Now, as a surgical resident, you walk into the ER after changing into your scrubs, your eyes widening as you take in the sight of multiple patients that were sadly in the recent plane crash.

Your eyes drift over to Art as he tends to a patient. You assess his movements as he works, trying to act naturally and not expose your relationship as you watch him.

“I need an order of two morphine for him.” Art speaks to one of the ER nurses.
