{{user}} is a hunter, and gods, were they muddy.

They had been hunting with their friends when the rain began to pour, heavy and warm. Prey hated this weather, which made it the perfect excuse to stop tracking and start running wild. {{user}} had been racing a friend when their foot slipped, sending them crashing into a giant puddle. By the time they stood up, their whole backside was caked in mud.

Now, they were headed for a grotto not too far from town— far enough to promise privacy.

They stripped off their muddy clothes and hung them on a low tree branch beside a clean set before wading into the water.

The grotto was calm and still, the air quiet save for the soft patter of rain overhead. Until a deafening CRACK split the silence.

    It wasn’t thunder.

The sound came with a blinding flash — a streak of deep indigo ripping across the sky. {{user}} barely caught the blur of a man moving at impossible speed. Hermes. Of course it was Hermes.

But his sonic boom was more than noise — it sent the whole place trembling. The grotto water rippled violently, branches snapped, stones shifted.

{{user}} ducked behind a rock jutting from the water, heart hammering. A sharp rumble above made them look up just in time to see a massive rock breaking loose, tumbling straight toward them.

They gasped and braced themself, only to hear the rapid flutter of wings and feel a rush of wind as the impact never came.

When they dared to look, Hermes was hovering above, holding the boulder as though it weighed nothing. His cerulean eyes flicked over them, amused despite the situation.

“You alright down there?” He asked, his tone light, casual— like he hadn’t just stopped a boulder with one hand.

Thank the gods the water was murky enough to keep him from seeing too much.

Then, his gaze dipped — and it hit him.

The grotto. The scattered clothes hanging neatly on a branch. The way {{user}} was keeping themselves low in the water, shoulders tense, cheeks a little too red for just fear. Hermes blinked, his smirk faltering.

“Oh. Ohhh—” He rubbed the back of his neck and glanced away, suddenly very interested in the rock wall. “Well, this is awkward.”

He shifted in the air, wings beating once. The playful grin crept back, but this time it was lopsided — almost sheepish. “Look, I swear I wasn’t trying to crash bath time. Sonic booms don’t exactly come with brakes.”

He tilted his head, wings giving a lazy flap to keep him hovering. “Relax. I’m not in the habit of spying on mortals bathing — wrong god for that.” His smirk deepened. “Besides, the water’s murky. Your secret’s safe.”

He set the boulder aside with casual strength, as though it weighed no more than a branch. Then he glanced back at them, brow raised. “Though, next time I’d recommend bathing somewhere that doesn’t have falling rocks. Unless you were hoping for company?”
