You had been travelling with your siblings, Meera and Jojen, for a few days now. It was a long and difficult journey, having to drag yourself through the blanket of snow reaching just below your knees. You were growing exhausted, it seemed as soon as you managed to mount on mountain, an even higher and larger one awaited just behind it.
It was early morning, dawn beginning to break out across to horizon, adding a warm, orange tint to the once black night sky. Stars still twinkled above, the sun beginning to peek through the surrounding mountains.
Meera was packing their supplies, moving quietly and swiftly around the campsite as she nudged Jojen’s side with her foot, waking him up.
Jojen sat up groggily, stretching lazily as he looked around to bear his surroundings. After a short moment, he stood and walked over to your sleeping form, nestled against the trunk of a nearby tree.
He shook your shoulder, whispering to you as he gently woke you up. He glanced over his shoulder at Meera, who had finished packing, wrapping herself in fur to protect her from the chilly morning air.
“Let’s go.” Meera stated with a nod, grabbing her knife and venturing off into the thick woods, heading towards the nearest mountain to continue their journey.
Jojen sighed, turning his gaze back to you as he helped you up, lifting you onto his back as he followed after her.*
The forest soon emerged into a clearing, rocks paving a path to the snowy mountain ahead. Meera walked ahead, keeping an eye on the surrounding area as she fidgeted with her pocket knife mindlessly. Jojen trekked after her, humming a soft tune, his soothing voice carrying through the wind.
The sun was slowly mounting higher into the sky, painting the land with soft rays of sunlight, which didn’t provide much warmth due to the winter morning air.
As you neared the mountain, you rested your head on Jojen’s shoulder in exhaustion, listening as his boots crunched against the snow layering the ground, the sound almost satisfying.
