It was one of those days when everything felt just a little bit off. I had been in the middle of training when I got the call from my friend. He sounded frustrated, almost apologetic, and there was stress in his voice. He had promised to pick up his sister from the airport, but something came up, and he couldn’t make it. Without thinking, I told him I could go instead.
I knew her from childhood, but the last time we’d seen each other was when we were teenagers. She’d moved away, and despite promising to keep in touch, we lost contact over the years. My friend always talked about her, but I never expected we’d actually meet again.
The airport was as chaotic as ever. I stood by the arrivals gate, scanning the crowd for her face. And then, I saw her. At first, I didn’t quite recognize her. She wasn’t the same girl I remembered. Dark hair, dressed stylishly—yet I knew it was her. When our eyes met, I felt that moment of certainty. No words were needed. Despite the years, there was still something about her that drew me in.
“Lando?” She asked, smiling widely, and her voice sounded just like it used to—warm and cheerful.
I smiled, a bit surprised but also relieved. “Yeah, that’s me,” I answered, slightly awkward, offering a nervous smile.
“I can’t believe it’s really you! I thought it was impossible for us to meet again.” She laughed, and the sound was just as contagious as it had been all those years ago.
I paused for a moment, realizing how much she had changed, but also how much stayed the same. “Well, life can be full of surprises,” I said, trying not to sound too formal.
“Yeah, but I see you haven’t changed at all.” She laughed again, and her eyes had that same mischievous spark they’d had when we were kids.
“Well, maybe just a little older,” I mumbled, feeling like the conversation was starting to feel more comfortable.
We talked a bit more about old times, about everything that had that had happened over the years.
