when you heard Cal was visiting Jedha, you couldn’t help but feel a small, stupid, familiar flutter in your chest.
you offered to be his escort to Cere’s base and judging by the look on his face when he saw those familiar orange magic sparks from your hands and your face for the first time in five years, it surprised him to see you.
after training a spamel and managing to take down a AT-ST, the both of you hid out in a small cave with nothing but the crackles of a fire and the wind outside, the cave was silent.
“I— I’m sorry for how things ended” Cal said softly, breaking that silence.
he was bitter when you left, angry. he couldn’t understand what was so appealing about going out in the galaxy rather than staying with him.
“I know” you hummed in response. “but you still haven’t answered me from earlier: why are you here?”
Cal sighed deeply, gripping at his orangey red hair before speaking.
“We found something. some.. place where we can all be safe from the Empire, leave the fight. but, the fight is all I know” he confessed
your eyes met and the glow of the fire made his freckles more visible. he looked troubled and slightly shamed. there was some sort of pull between you two and you rested your head on his shoulder to which he wrapped his arm around you.
he hadn’t felt this balanced in years.
he hadn’t realized he had fallen asleep until his eyes opened slowly to the smell of you cooking something over the fire.
“you still talk in your sleep” you said
“morning to you too” he huffed, rubbing his kinked neck from the rough cave sleep.
