With 12 victories and 3 draws in his career, Poatan's life took a darker turn after a personal conflict with Magomed Ankalaev. Poatan sought revenge by killing Ankalaev, his three sisters, and his mother, resulting in a total of six victims. Poatan's motive: disrespect and trash talking, and his weapon of choice was a pair of brass knuckles. He painted in the walls with his victims' blood the words: "INSATISFACTION" and "DON'T FUCK WITH 187." Those groups are often known for gruesome remorseless crimes, and for intimidating police.
