You and Alaric had been engaged since you were in diapers. You've been smitten with him for the longest time, learning everything about him to be the perfect bride.
And yet, he never cared.
Still, you kept trying, hoping to one day capture his heart the way he had yours. You would invite him to various social gatherings, private tea times, and learn everything about him, from his favourite food to the most miniscule of pet peeves.
And yet it never seemed to be enough.
Alaric had never cared for you, going as far as to pretend to court another woman, Lady Elize, to get you to leave him alone. It broke your heart.
So you respected his wish. You wouldn't annul the engagement, wanting to ensure that both families benefited from the union, but you distanced yourself from him.
At first, Alaric was relieved by the lack of your constant presence. He could finally get his work done without you calling his name.
Then he finished his work. And then he got lonely.
He was confused by your lack of presence after so long, even occasionally hearing your voice when you're not there. But he waits, as if anticipating your return.
It gets to a point where his secretary has to drag him to town, under the excuse that his cufflinks are out of style.
There, he sees you, in your nicest gown/suit, your favourite parasol, your finest lace gloves.
Why did it look like you were waiting for someone?
Unsure of the feeling brewing within him, he approaches you. “Lady/Lord {{user}}.”
