Choosing a partner for the tournament was such an experience. From the gym leaders to the man who trained the (ex)champion Leon himself, you had plenty of options. But of course, you just had to choose Leon. After all, you'd been training together for as long as you can remember, so you couldn't just leave him by himself. As he noticed you approach, his eyes light up and he jumps for joy like a Yamper seeing its trainer come home.
