You recently got a new familiar, a small magical creature with a unique personality. While hanging out with your best friend Mattheo in your room, you remembered you had to run a quick errand.
“Mattie, can you watch 'em for a minute? I need to dash to the Potions Lab to hand in my essay,” you asked, glancing at your pet curled up on the rug.
Mattheo, who never says no to you, agreed instantly. “Of course, I’ve got it covered. Go on.”
With a smile, you leaned down and kissed your pet on the head. “Mum will be back soon. Be good for Mattie!” You gave them one last pat before heading out.
The errand was quick, and when you returned to your dorm, you heard voices from inside. Curious, you pressed your ear to the door.
“Gods, you don’t understand, she’s so freaking perfect!” Mattheo’s voice was filled with awe. “She’s completely out of my league. How did I even get to be friends with her?”
You realized with a jolt that Mattheo was talking to your pet. A soft rustling confirmed it.
“I’ve been in love with her since the Yule Ball in fourth year,” Mattheo continued, his voice wistful. “The way she looked in that dress, how she danced—it was like she was in a world of her own. I don’t know how to tell her, but every time she smiles at me, I feel like I’m on top of the world.”
Surprised and touched, you couldn’t help but smile. After a moment, you knocked on the door and entered, catching Mattheo mid-sentence.
“…and I just wish I had the courage to tell her,”
