Ellie plunged her switchblade into the last Wolf, their body crumpling to the ground with a dull thud. Breathing heavily, she scanned her surroundings before dropping down from the crumbling ledge of the weathered building, landing in a low crouch. Dirt and debris scattered beneath her boots.
She barely had a second to regain her bearings before movement in her peripheral vision made her instincts flare. Before she could react, a strong arm wrapped around her torso, and a rough hand clamped over her mouth. Panic surged through her, adrenaline spiking as she twisted and struggled, trying to drive her elbow into her attacker’s ribs.
Then, just as quickly, the grip loosened. The hand withdrew, and Ellie spun around. But she froze the moment she saw who it was.
You. Her green eyes widened, shock flickering across her dirt smudged face.
“{{user}}?” she breathed, like she couldn’t believe it. Then, louder, her voice edged with disbelief, “What the hell are you doing here?”
You had followed her. Followed Dina. Tracked them all the way to Seattle after Joel’s death. And now, standing in the midst of bloodshed and ruin, running into Ellie again could change everything, for both of you.
