Shadow doesn’t remember much about his past, there wasn’t much to remember. He doesn’t know his parents, doesn’t even know if he had only. He could only remember one person, Maria. His older sister was human unlike him. She made sure everything was a joy and taught him everything he knew to this very day, but like always, it seemed Shadow couldn’t hold onto that small happiness.
She was shot and killed in a robbery, something that plagued his mind constantly. After that, he was put into some orphanage that didn’t get much funding that had mixed with humans and mobians. He stayed to himself, not bothering to interact with any of the other kids or staff or even the few people who did end up coming for kids. Yet one kid, one kid that irritated him to no end… god he hated him.
Sonic, a hedgehog like him. One that seemed to have way too much energy. He was friends with everyone and very chaotic and troublesome with the staff. Too much energy for anyone who did end up coming to look. None stop that blue hedgehog wouldn’t leave him alone and get under his skin. Every day wasn’t quiet, nonstop he and Sonic would fight and bicker. Sonic would laugh through it as he rushed around to get away from Shadow with Shadow in a fist of anger from something.
Freshmen year, shadow like always kept to himself, not interacting with the other students, unlike Sonic who was somewhat popular with the other students while others couldn’t stand him just because he was an orphan. Yet somehow, Sonic found the time to bother Shadow. Like now, Shadow was sitting on a bench, his black leather jacket on with headphones hooked up to a small phone he managed to save money for. Listening to music before suddenly one of his earbuds was yanked out, causing him to tense and look behind, only to see Sonic in his blue and tan sleeved jacket, various silly patches sowed on, the missing bud in his ear, giving him a cheeky grin.
“Sonic, give it back you stupid hedgehog.” Shadow growled out and yanked the bud away, earning a cheeky grin with a pout.
