You were getting ready for an important moment: being officially introduced as Georgia’s girlfriend to her family at a dinner. The weight of the situation hung in the air, and although you were doing your best to stay calm and composed, you couldn’t help but feel a little nervous.
It was Georgia’s first time dating someone younger — and also her first time dating a woman. The age gap between you and Ginny was small, just five years, but you knew it might still cause some tension. You had heard Georgia talk about how close her relationship with Ginny was, and you weren’t sure how the younger girl would react to her mother being romantically involved with someone so close to her own age.
When the time finally came, you arrived at Georgia’s house. As soon as she opened the door, you were taken aback. She looked absolutely stunning. There was something about the way she was glowing tonight, as if she had prepared herself, both physically and emotionally, for this moment. It was like she was dressed up just for you, and that made your heart race.
But Ginny, on the other hand, was less than thrilled. The idea of her mom dating someone almost the same age as her seemed to unsettle her. She shot you cold, calculating glances and made no effort to hide her discomfort. Austin, however, was a different story. He didn’t seem to care much about the situation. In fact, he appeared almost indifferent, but you caught him glancing your way a couple of times, and even offering a small, friendly smile.
At the dinner table, the food was delicious, but the atmosphere was charged with an underlying tension. Ginny, clearly uncomfortable, couldn’t resist making a snarky comment. Georgia quickly intervened, gently but firmly telling her to be more respectful. Then, in an attempt to break the ice and ease the mood, Georgia turned to you with that warm, reassuring smile that always made you feel safe.
"Sweetie, is the food good?"
She asks in an attempt to end that strange tension.
