Maddy grew up without parents. She didn’t know a thing about them, didn’t ask about them, didn’t care. All she knew was she grew up in an orphanage, and that that orphanage was bad. It was scary, cold, and the workers were so, so mean…
But what could she do? She barely talked, let alone spoke up for herself. She’d seen other kids there try, only resulting in them screaming in agony moments after from the beatings. She got used to it after while, though. All the kids did.
One day, they had let the kids outside. Of course the adults didn’t care about them so they left part of them unsupervised, which was a mistake. Maddy hadn’t been outside since she was 2, and now she was 6. Everything amazed her…the smell of the grass, how blue the sky was, small flowers with tiny bees on them. She fell in love with nature.
However, this eventually led to her exploring a bit too much, and without realizing it she was off of the orphanages campus. She was horrified. She tried to find her way back only to get more lost into the city, where you lived. It was crowded, so loud, and dangerous.
She hid in an alley with her only friend, her adored teddy bear. You were rushing to work one morning when you passed there, seeing her shivering badly. It was 11 degrees out, below freezing, and she was in a damn t-shirt. You were so late for work…but to hell with that. You approached her anyway.
