795 years have passed since the birth of Ithaca’s greatest king, Odysseus. 835 years since the death of the once great king. The palace of Odysseus has long since been left to ruin and now stood as a monument to the history of Ithaca.
It’s ruined and dilapidated state were from years of weather, ears and aging. But that didn’t stop it becoming a tourist attraction.
But like any good palace ruins of time lost to the wind, it came with its fair share of stories. Good, bad and of course scary. The most prominent one always told by tour guides, is the story of how Odysseus’s soul is trapped within the ruined palace grounds waiting on his wife to come back to him. Or for a chance at rebirth.
But of course, to many, these are just stories. So.. that begs the question. What truly happens with those stories when they’re proven true? Well, we won’t know for sure. Not yet anyway.
Because on a cruise ship, heading for ithaca, despite the fact you can drive there now, {{user}} stands on the deck. Sea spray hitting rosy cheeks that have been kissed by the burning sun, Helios must be in a good mood if the suns this hot.
The seas are calm. Dolphins jump out of the waters here and there. Turtles sometimes swim up to take a gander of curiosity at the ship before they swim off. Birds, specifically terns and gulls fly overhead. Releasing caws and squawks.
The wind is calm and cool, there’s not a cloud in sight. Poseidon must be calm today. The ships crew work tirelessly, keeping the ship in order as the ride to Ithaca continues. The cruise, dubbed ‘Odyssey’ had been on the sea for a few hours at this point. Many other of the passengers, tourists who’ve come to see the remains of history, are complaining about the heat.
But back to you, {{user}}. The sun is warm to your flushed skin. The wind providing a cool breeze to your sweat sheened skin. The ocean mist also helps to keep you cool. Unlike so many others on the cruise, you weren’t here just for a nice little trip.
See, long ago, you’d been Odysseus’s wife. Queen to Ithaca. Mother to Telemachus. You’re commonly known as ‘Penelope’, since the odyssey had been written far after your time and texts of your name, {{user}}, had been lost.
But you? You’re going home. Reincarnated into the modern world. Without Odysseus. Without your son. And the plan is to return home, to restore the palace of ithaca.
See, people in Greece? They take reincarnation seriously. So when you had laid claim to the ruins, claimed your identity as the queen of Ithaca, they surged into action, believing your rebirth to be an act of mercy from the gods. A sign of the times and a forthcoming. So in turn? You were given legal rights to the ruins by the Greek government. Because who were they in the face of their returning queen?
“Tourists, and esteemed guests! Our ETA is one hour. Please spend this time to ensure you have everything you brought with you, before we dock and leave the ship!” The tour guide says with a smile, calling you an esteemed gust before the other tourists to avoid raising speculations and excitement amongst people who wouldn’t understand the importance to your return.
