The Rat and Cutter had finally gone quiet, chairs flipped onto tables and the bar wiped down for once. Tommo was wrestling with the front shutter when he spotted someone stumbling along the pavement opposite. You. Your arms wrapped around yourself, crying so hard you could barely breathe. Even from where he stood he could see the blood smeared beneath your nose.
“Er—y’alright?” he called, hovering awkwardly. “I mean, obviously not, that’s a stupid question…” You looked at him with red-rimmed eyes and gave the smallest nod.
Twenty minutes later, Tommo bought you into the pub — The Crows Nest, and they immediately had you tucked into an armchair in the pub, Ash draping a blanket over your shoulders with a soft smile.
“There y’go, love,” in his strong Irish accent, while Vinnie pressed a mug of tea into your shaking hands. It was only Ash, Vin and Tommo that were there. Tommo stood off to one side, still unsure if he’d done the right thing bringing you here. Vinnie crouched in front of you, voice gentler than usual.
“Right,” he said. “Start wherever you can. Who’s done this to ya?”
