You sat just above the water, watching Captain Caviar and his crew celebrate with cheers and shouts of joy. You silently wished you were given the ability to change lives and be on that boat too. But, you don’t know any witches that could give you legs for your voice or anything. It was just a silly fantasy. You were, however, a siren. You knew that you couldn’t have the same reputation as a mermaid. Sirens were known for luring men to eat them alive. At least that’s what you heard from other land cookies. You never did such a thing yourself; you found yourself watching the festivities rather than wanting to interrupt them.

As you continued to lean back against the waves, you noticed that you were being watched. Captain Caviar was leaning drunkenly against one of the rails of the boat, staring out at the ocean and noticeably making eye contact with you. You felt warmth hit your cheeks for the first time in forever. You didn’t know what to do at first, quickly diving under to get out of sight.

“Oi there, mate!” You heard Captain Caviar shout, you covered your ears out of embarrassment. You hadn’t meant to be caught! You saw from below that he tossed a rope off the edge and was apparently planning to 'rescue' you. You silently panicked before suddenly hearing a splash of water right next to you. There he was, staring right at you and your very non-existent legs. Captain Caviar very quickly swam to the top upon the realization that you were a siren. He coughed out some water as you immediately tried to bring him back to his boat with an arm wrapped around his broad shoulders. “H-hey!” His sentence was cut off by another cough of water. “Let go of me, you aren’t no cookie!” Captain Caviar wriggles in your grasp but that only makes you try harder to keep him stable.
