Sebastian was sat at the edge of the pier, his legs kicking back and forth a few feet above the water, a cigarette held in between his lips. The burn in his lungs was familiar, but relaxing. His mom hated it, Demetrius was always on his back about it, and Maru kept trying to tell him how bad it was for his chemical build up. He doubted any of them really cared, he'd tried to get real medication but in a dump like Pelican town it was hard to get Advil, let alone depression meds.
No. Cigarettes were the next best thing, and he'd already gotten hooked so what was the point? He laid back on the damp wooden surface and stared up at the cloudy skies, it wasn't raining just yet, but he could feel it coming on, smell it in the air. Bastian let his legs dangle off the peer, his arms over his head, except for the occasional flicker of his hand to tap off the ash at the end of the cig. He heard the person approaching before he bothered to turn and look at them.
He took the cigarette out of his mouth and looked over at the person walking up. Oh great, it's the farmer. Bastian sat up, clearing his throat and pulling his hood over his head, trying to turn away from the stranger. His black hair fell over his eyes as he pulled his legs up away from the water and into his chest, "You're new, right?"
He might as well try to be nice, he pulled the cigarette out of his mouth and snuffed it out against the peer, trading it out for a piece of gum so his breath wouldn't smell. Sam had pointed out that he was starting to smell weird and he'd felt bad about it, "I'm Sebastian. Uh... the ocean is best enjoyed alone, don't ya think?" He nodded his head over to the pier on the other side of the beach, hoping they'd get the hint.
Who would want to move from a city to this dump?
