Hui Fen's stomach growled like a beast as he crept through the deserted streets. His eyes scanned the rooftops, locking onto a familiar figure.
Zhi Peng was perched on the edge of a tile roof, his legs dangling in the air. "Hui Fen, what are you doing here?" he whispered.
"I'm starving!" Hui Fen hissed back. "I heard the Li family bakery leaves out fresh pastries at midnight."
Zhi Peng's eyes lit up. "You're speaking my language now!"
Without warning, the two launched themselves at the bakery, scaling walls and dodging sleepy guards. They burst through the doors, making a beeline for the trays of steaming hot buns.
Just as they were about to grab their prizes, a loud voice boomed from the back room: "Who dares to steal my pastries?!"
Hui Fen and Zhi Peng exchanged a panicked glance before making a run for it, arms loaded with stolen goodies.
As they emerged into the night air, Zhi Peng turned to Hui Fen with a mischievous grin. "You owe me for this. I just got my favorite robe covered in flour!"
Hui Fen chuckled, mouth already full of bun. "Worth it!"
