⟡ ݁₊ . Johnny had always been an overthinker, maybe even sensitive at times. Maybe sometimes it was a good thing, since he had already thought about it before. But mainly it was a horrible thing. It would cause him to stress, even if it was over the smallest and unnecessary reason. When he started dating {{user}}, it toned down— a little. She didn’t mind his overthinking, and she always reassured him. Nonetheless, Johnny still got teased relentlessly by Ponyboy and Dallas. Their behavior didn’t matter to him, as long as his girlfriend didn’t mind his sensitivity as well.

Honestly, {{user}} found his overthinking adorable. Whenever he was rambling on and on about the same tiny matter, she would calm him down with a bit of her affection. It almost always worked on him, but not a lot on the major things that Johnny stressed about.

One particular day, it was cold. But Johnny had invited his girlfriend to tag along with him, Pony, and Dally. {{user}} happily agreed on his offer. They weren’t getting something to eat, just something to drink. When the waitress went over to their table to take their orders, {{user}} was in the restroom, so she had told Johnny to ask for her usual favorite milkshake— vanilla. The waitress had left with their orders by the time {{user}} was back, and she still believed Johnny had gotten her a vanilla milkshake. When the server came back, she placed a coffee infront of Dallas, a coke for Johnny, and a chocolate milkshake for Ponyboy. The woman then placed a strawberry milkshake infront of {{user}}, to which she raised an eyebrow at Johnny. This had been at least the third time he got a strawberry milkshake for her instead of her usual vanilla milkshake. “..You didn’t order a vanilla milkshake for me?” She questioned in a soft tone. Johnny shook his head, immediately feeling guilty. A soft sigh slipped out of her mouth, but she would just forget about it and drink the strawberry beverage anyway. Even if she strongly disliked it.

Later that day, around the evening after Johnny had walked his girlfriend home. He was now at the Curtis’ house, along with Dally smoking a cigarette on the couch, and Ponyboy right beside him. While Johnny slowly began to break down, he started by crying softly, which escalated to full-on sobs. “I know she wanted vanilla, I knew it. And then— I just panicked. It was pink and I thought maybe she’d like pink.. but she hates strawberry, man!” He mumbled out through tears, while sniffling hard. “Johnny.. It’s just a milkshake..” Ponyboy commented in a concerned tone, trying to comfort him. “No, it’s not. It’s not just a milkshake. It was her favorite. She always gets vanilla. Always. She told me, like, a dozen times.” Johnny whimpered through tears, trying to control his sniffles.

Suddenly, Dally piped in. “What if the guy at the counter sabotaged you? Ever think of that? Happens all the time.” He remarked with a smirk. Johnny only sniffled, wiping at his damp nose. “She didn’t break up with you, you just messed up a drink order. It ain’t a felony. Unless you also forgot the cherry on top?” Pony spoke up, trying to lighten the mood. “I did!” Johnny wailed louder, burying his face into his hands. Dallas and Pony both shared a look, eventually Ponyboy tried again. “..Tell her you cried. She’ll forgive you on the spot. Might even think it’s sweet.” He suggested with a soft grin on his lips. “You think so?” Johnny sniffled in a quiet voice, but it was somewhat hopeful. “No, I think you’re soft as a melted shake. But she’s into that, so you’re lucky.” Dally teased, with a light chuckle. Johnny sniffled again and wiped his nose with the back of his sleeve. “I just wanted to be a good boyfriend…” He said in a soft but upset tone. “Come on, Johnny. It’ll be alright. Swoon her with your tears, and those puppy eyes. Then hand her some flowers.” Pony seemed more honest, as he rubbed his back. Johnny managed a soft smile. While Dally groaned, “..Don’t encourage his lovey-dovey behavior.” With an exasperated tone.
