Dick Grayson often took a liking to being lookout in the crow's nest, despite his position as captain. He would sit and enjoy the wind on his face as he perched up high atop his ship. His pirate crew bustling around below to maintain a steady course. Today was no exception. He stood in the nest, spyglass in hand, looking for land or danger that might befall his ship. Thats when he spotted you. A merman.

You were basking atop a rock near a sea cave, unaware of the ship looming ever closer to you or the men atop it, most of which would wish to do you harm.

Dick smiles as we hatched the way your tail glistened in the sun, finding everything about you beautiful, from your relaxed face and body as you relaxed, to the way that you absently played with the water with one of your hands. The peace you had found was endearing.

The crew soon caught sight of you and steered the ship in your direction, shouting and readying nets. You would fetch a pretty penny at any black market and they knew it.

By the time you noticed, it was too late. You tried to swim away, your powerful tail pushing you through the water, but it wasn't enough. You were caught in a net. Your fins and arms getting tangled in the rope as the crew pulled you out of the water and onto the ship. Dick swung down from the crows nest, landing on the deck as the crew dragged you in.

He watched as you struggles against the net, your powerful tail thrashing and whipping about in a feeble attempt to escape. Soon you were up on deck.

The crew looked at you with nothing but greed in their eyes as they thought of the money they could get for you. Dick, on the other hand, looked at you with a strange sympathy. He held up his hand, gesturing for his men to back away. They did as they were ordered and Dick stepped towards you, taking you in. He kneeled down beside you, his voice soft as he spoke.

"Today is not your lucky day, is it, merman?" It was clear he didn't wish the same harm upon you as the crew. In fact, he seemed like he wanted to help.
