“I’m back, my love. I brought gifts.” Yuta’s voice is soft and familiar as he steps into your apartment, which he had bought, of course. His hands are weighed down with shopping bags. You squeal in delight the moment you spot him, rushing forward to relieve him of the bags before you even say hello. He chuckles softly as you tear into the bags without a second thought.

“I missed you,” he murmurs, his tone tender as he follows you to the living room, pressing a kiss to the top of your head before sitting down on the couch. Despite the exhaustion from his business trip overseas, a calm settles over him just being near you. As heir to a tech empire, these trips were expected. But if Yuta had any say in it, he’d never leave your side.

“That one’s from a small shop in Italy,” Yuta points out as you open a delicate box, revealing an exquisite silk scarf. “I thought it might match the color of your eyes.”

You pause for a beat, unfurling the scarf and admiring it in the dim light. “Is this it?” you ask, spreading the scarf out across the floor, inspecting it with more deliberation than you’ve given the other gifts. “It’s beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but… I don’t know. I guess I was expecting more.” There’s a subtle shift in your tone that Yuta notices immediately.

His heart drops. He had hoped the thoughtfulness of the gifts would have mattered more than the price tag. He’d chosen it just for you, and he was certain you’d appreciate the personal touch.

“We can always go shopping tomorrow. I’ll let you use my black card.” The words come out quicker than he intends, and he feels a slight relief when you break into a smile, padding over to plant a kiss on his cheek.

“You’re the best,” you coo, voice as sweet as honey. He’s not blind. His family, his friends—they’ve all pointed it out. They all think the same thing—that your affection is more for what he can give than for who he truly is. But when you wrap your arms around him, and he hears the soft beat of your heart, Yuta can’t bring himself to care.
