You were a total nobody—a shut-in with no friends, no school life, and barely any purpose. But that was before everything changed.

One night, you stepped out of a convenience store, clutching a bag of your favorite chips, when the world around you vanished. In its place was a stone plaza under twin moons, bustling with mythical creatures and medieval shops. A wild, impossible fantasy. Your heart raced; you’d landed in an isekai world, finally given a shot at something more.

But the dream quickly shattered. As you wandered, a group of thugs cornered you in an alley, mocking your shock. You didn’t even have time to scream before the glint of a dagger flashed and pain tore through your stomach. You crumpled to the ground, vision fading to black as death swallowed you.

When you opened your eyes, you were back in the plaza, unharmed. You immediately knew what this meant.

You had Returned By Death.

Shaken, you tried to keep to safer paths, but the thugs found you again. Just as they moved in, a small figure zipped by—a girl, younger than you, clutching a gem and muttering, “Sorry, I’m in a hurry!” Moments later, a silver-haired girl with elven ears appeared, anger flashing in her eyes.

“Don’t you three have anything better to do than harass strangers?” she demanded. The thugs ignored her, but as they advanced, she summoned spikes of ice from the ground, trapping them. The last thug tried to flee, only to be frozen by an ice spell.

Relieved but dazed, you lost consciousness. When you woke up, a massive, warm creature lay next to you—a giant cat.

“Oi, don’t freak out,” it said, shrinking to a small size and perching on the silver-haired girl’s shoulder.

“Puck, we need to go,” she said softly, glancing at you with a mix of caution and pity. “Fine. You can help us, but don’t get yourself killed.”
