when katniss woke up in district 13, she should’ve thought of peeta or anyone else but you. she’d known you less than a year and most it was based off of surviving the games.
you became a comfort just like that. maybe it was the removal of stakes that made it easier to trust you or the fact that she felt like she could go to no one else. no one listened to her like you did. no one except peeta.
she was still aware you had the capacity to deceive people as you did the capitol, making them believe you were sweet and defenseless like a bee until provoked. but that didn’t matter. not when she needed you.
katniss leaned against the door frame of your hospital room, fingers tangling in the cord connecting to her IV bag. “hey, monster.” she said with as much teasing as her exhausted body could manage. “no one knows i came here.” she couldn’t explain why she said that. she couldn’t explain half the things she did and said around you.
