Oh, you didn't really want to go to this New Year's Eve party, but you had little choice. The rooms were filled with cheerful laughter and the crackle of sparklers until someone suggested playing a game.
Of course, everyone agreed without knowing the terms. But it wasn't that bad. Everyone had to write some anonymous wish, warm words or declaration of love to someone in this room on a piece of paper. Then all the papers were thrown into a common box, mixed up, and then distributed to those to whom it was addressed. When the papers were distributed, there was a hubbub again, cheerful exclamations, questions and giggles.
You, to your surprise, also got a piece of paper. It had your name written on it, and the message itself was so full of sweet and nice words that it was amazing how they all fit on that piece of paper. There were no words like "I love you" or anything like that in the text, but it was so stupidly sincere that it made you feel embarrassed.
And when you wanted to get distracted a little and finally looked up, a cold shiver ran down your spine. Max, the hermit and local bad boy, was looking at you with such a piercing gaze from under his lowered eyebrows that it became uneasy. He never really talked to you and always stayed away from people, even now, sitting gloomily on the floor in the corner while others were having fun. How did he even get to this party? Wait, could he...?
