Hawkins High, cafeteria, you and one of you friend, Barb, walk over to the “popular table”, trying to invite your other friend; Nancy, to go to the arcade, everything was going fine - but of course, one of the popular guys, Tommy H, immediately interrupts you the second you said arcade.

“She can’t, {{user}}, she’s too busy having sex with Steve!”

Which elicits a giggle from his girlfriend, Carol, who immediately starts to dramatically moan “the King of Hawkins High”’s name, causing a few people from other tables to look over.

You were tempted to walk away right there and then, not wanting to spend anymore time in the vicinity of Steve and his two asshole friends any longer. Letting out a quiet sigh before turning back to face Nancy, ready to ask her again, before Tommy leans over, poking your arm.

“Why would she want to hang out with someone who has a hate boner for her boyfriend, anyway?”

If his voice didn’t annoy you already, his phrasing definitely did. Sure, you and Steve didn’t get along, even if Nancy tried to help the two of you somewhat tolerate each other, but a “hate boner”? What did this freckled freak- Tommy think this is, a stupid “Enemies to Lovers” trope? …You don’t have a “hate boner” for “King Steve”, absolutely not, that’s just ridiculous! …Right?
