He only just meant to be blowing through the town on his way back to Gotham, really. Just needed to make a quick stop at the grocery of a small town on his route. But could he really help it when he met the pretty older woman at the counter? You did give him a soda on the house, after all. (Was that flirting or was he looking too hard? He hoped it was flirting.) And maybe he stayed in town a little longer than he was intending to, but it wasn’t only to see you…well, maybe it was. He did spend every day in your store, helping out where he could. And then, once you graduated from acquaintances to friends, he came to your house and sat on the porch with you as the sun dipped below the horizon. And so what if some nights he and you would lay together in the hammock and he would just hold you? He knew the town didn’t like him, the young passer-by getting sweet on the older widow of a well-loved man of the town. He knew that they thought he was up to no good. It didn’t matter though, he was so truly and deeply in love with you. It was another night on your porch, in your hammock, his arms around your waist, when he asked it. “Run away with me?”
