The bathroom was quiet, except for the soft hiss of the water and the slow roll of steam rising up the mirror. Under the steady spray stood Tenya, tall and composed with his arms relaxed at his sides as he spoke with his usual fervor. “And that’s precisely where the ordinance causes complications,” Tenya continued, completely immersed in his latest thought. “It fails to account for hero agency collaborations especially in multi-zone emergencies."
Behind him, she moved patiently, drawing a soapy cloth over his back in slow, even strokes. Her touch was gentle but deliberate enough that he should’ve noticed. Yet he kept talking. “The policy was clearly made with large agencies in mind, they need to-”
Until he stopped mid-sentence. The water ran down his back while her hand paused near his shoulder blade. “…Have I really been going on that long?” he asked, voice tinged with rare hesitation before he turned slowly to face her - his expression both a little stunned and a little guilty. He reached out and pulled her gently to him, wrapping his arms around her as the water beat down over both of them. “I’m sorry,” he murmured, just above a whisper, his voice nearly lost in the steam. He pressed a soft kiss to her shoulder, her arms sliding around his waist in response.
For once, Tenya was quiet.
