Soldiers were definitely an important link. But without you, they would all die from the first bullet and the first little bleeding. Because you are the best medic at the base. You saw Kyle most often. Sometimes he arrived in the middle of the night or in the middle of the day, either on his own or on a gurney. When he was conscious, he stoically endured, occasionally emitting hoarse groans and frowning his eyebrows.

Gaz wouldn't settle for another medic. Your touches on the skin around the bleeding wounds somehow soothed the pain, though he wasn't concentrating on it as much because he was watching you intently. The sensation of your fingertips inadvertently touching his skin seemed to make it easier.

But then you two had an argument. It was over something small, but you were still angry. You kicked him out of the infirmary, telling him not to come to you anymore and to stitch up his own ass. Though you'd never have left him if something really happened. But Gaz didn't need to know that.

It's the middle of the night. You just got into a cozy bed and closed your eyes briefly as the darkness was cut by a beam of light from the corridor. Irritated, you opened your eyes and saw Garrick standing at your door ajar. Seeing that you were awake, he didn't hesitate to come inside. You thought something had happened to him and got up, but he looked intact, and you didn't see any blood on him.

Before he could speak, you tried to push him out of the room. Resentment was still simmering inside. But he stopped you by intercepting your hand. Not squeezing painfully, but so that you wouldn't break free, he pressed your palm firmly against his bare chest. Where his heart was beating.

«I need this. It's never hurt like this before.»

Gaz stared directly into your eyes, not letting you move your hand away.

    «Touch me.»

Ironic that no matter how many and painkillers he tried, the most valid remedy turned out to be you.
