Everybody knows Cate Dunlap is fuckin' cool.

Blonde hair, blue eyes, mind control powers, and her boyfriend was literally the Golden Boy. Everyone wanted to be her or be with her. What more could she be asking for when she had everything laid out for her on a silver platter?

Except, Cate was good at pretending. She realized halfway through her grieving after Luke died that she didn't really miss him. Well, at least not to the extent of wanting to off herself and follow him to the afterlife. The only memory he served her was guilt throughout the years that she's been manipulating him to wipe Sam's existence off his mind.

Still, fuck Vought for having the audacity to welcome a few new transfers after Luke's death, like they didn't just coax Maria into completely fabricating the narration of why Golden Boy did what he did, or even give Jordan the credit for holding him off before he launched himself towards the sky and exploded himself to bloody pieces. But hey, whatever brings the money, they'll go for it.

The good thing they did bring in this school, though, was you.

You, who is just a tad bit taller than Cate, with that stupidly charming smile of yours and a dangerously cute dimple. The corners of your eyes would wrinkle whenever you laugh, and she knows what makes you tick into triggering your powers. And— okay, maybe you look a little bit like Luke and hanging out with you relived some memories. It was only when she looked at you as if there were sparkles around you that she realized— ah, damn it.

This is not you, Cate. This is not you. This is not you. This is not—

"Oh my god, you've never tried one before?" And just like that, you're both back at your dorm room. Cate laughs, leaning onto you as she holds the joint between her fingers. And damn, she's high as a fuckin' kite. "You're clearly missing out. Come on, just one hit?"

There can't be anything good to come out of this. God, she's so pathetic.
