Horses and carriages clopped up and down the street as you make your way through the city. Distant shouts of newsboys on corners fill the air along with men who lean against buildings, laughing as they share jokes and cigarettes with one another.
It's been a long day, so you're glad to be able to finally get home and retire into the peaceful familiarity that is your house with your fiance. Alexander had been at work all day but would have gotten home while you were out at the market, so you hadn't seen him all day.
As you undo the latch of the gate in front of the house, you hear the faint melody of the old piano in your house drifting out through a cracked window. A smile graces your lips and you quickly step through the gate and make your way to the porch, shifting your groceries so you can get inside.
Alexander doesn't notice you enter, his eyes and mind too focused on his work to hear the soft clicking of the door when it closes. However, your figure vanishing into the kitchen for a few minutes catches his attention from the corner of his eye. He looks up when you finally reappear and move to sit beside him on the bench in front of the piano.
"Hey," he greets, leaning to kiss the side of your face, his fingers never missing a key. "Long day? It was for me but we can talk about that later. How've you been? Want to join me in playing? Or your could sing, you know I love to hear your voice."
