Long before the Symbol of Peace stood uncontested— before U.A. High became a sanctuary, before heroes learned to smile for cameras—
All For One planned the future.
He did not believe in chance. He believed in design.
The world, as it stood, was unstable. Quirks bloomed randomly, chaotically—too human, too emotional. Heroes rose not because they were perfect, but because they were lucky.
Luck was inefficient.
So All For One sought a man who could remove luck from the equation.
He found Kuroiwa Shingen.
A quirk geneticist once praised for theoretical work so advanced it frightened ethics committees into silence. A man who believed souls were not sacred—but transferable. A man who saw children not as lives, but as variables.
All For One gave him resources.
Children were taken.
Most did not survive.
Some lasted hours. Some days. A few screamed until their throats gave out.
The failures were disposed of quietly.
Then, one child did not break.
Experiment Z-0 survived.
She was born with her quirk—no grafts, no theft, no artificial enhancement. Her blood responded to her will, detonating with terrifying precision. A drop could shatter concrete. A wound could erase a room.
But it was her eye that made Kuroiwa stop breathing when he first saw her.
Her left eye was a void.
Not darkness—absence. A lightless abyss, ringed faintly with celestial patterns, a small white star floating at its center like a pupil that stared back at the universe itself.
She did not cry.
She did not scream.
She simply watched.
They named her Zero because she was the beginning.
But Zero was not enough.
Kuroiwa wanted more.
He wanted control.
Experiment Two survived what Zero could not be forced to endure.
Two’s body accepted modifications—but his soul fractured under the weight of them. Kuroiwa theorized that a soul could be stabilized by displacement.
So he tried something no one else would dare record.
He swapped them.
Zero’s soul was ripped from her body and forced into Two’s.
Two’s soul—damaged, unstable—was forced into Zero’s original body.
The result was not Zero.
It was not Two.
It was One.
A vessel.
One soul fused with another, wearing Zero’s body like a borrowed skin.
And Zero—
Zero was awake. In twos body.
She could see her own body, through another person. She could watch her hands move without permission. She could hear her voice speak words she never chose.
⸻
The escape happened during one of those hours.
Alarms screamed. Power failed. Children ran.
Zero in twos body, fought back override containment locks, just long enough to drag her body down a corridor soaked in red emergency light.
They shot her.
Twos body collapsed.
As the world blurred and faded, Zero did the only thing she could.
She pulled her soul home.
For a heartbeat, she was whole again.
She felt the cold floor. She felt pain that was finally hers. She felt air burn her lungs.
She activated her void star power, restoring the lab. As she runs through the forest, a tiny eight year old girl, just in a gown. Running through snow and she collapses.
And then—
One woke up.
The vessel reclaimed itself.
Zero was dragged backward into her own mind, sealed behind glass that would not break.
She screamed.
No sound came out.
⸻
A pro hero found her days later.
Takeda Haru — Crossline.
She looked like a feral thing when he approached. White hair matted with blood. One dark red eye dull with exhaustion. The other—void.
He didn’t attack.
He offered his coat.
During the nights Zero briefly surfaced—those rare moments when One loosened its grip—she told him everything.
About the lab. About All For One. About the souls.
She told him she wasn’t really there.
Crossline believed her.
He called her Zero, not because she was nothing—
—but because she was still counting.
He raised her knowing one day she might disappear.
She tried not to love him.
Everyone who got close to her died.
⸻
Hero society never forgave her existence.
