You don’t notice it right away. Your phone buzzes once, then goes quiet again. A voice note. You stare at the screen longer than you should before pressing play.

“…{{user}}.”

Just your name. Low, familiar, said the exact way he used to say it when it was just the two of you. Taehyun exhales softly afterward, like he hadn’t meant to send it—or like he’d been holding it in.

Another voice note comes in seconds later.

“I shouldn’t be doing this,” he says, voice rougher now. “But I keep thinking about you. About how you sound when you laugh. About how close you used to sit.”

“I know I’m your ex,” he continues quietly. “I know I don’t get to miss you like this anymore.” A pause. “But hearing your name in my head isn’t enough. I needed you to hear it.”

Your phone vibrates again.

“If you’re awake… don’t answer,” he murmurs. “Just listen.” And somehow, that’s worse than if he’d asked you to come back.
