Gotham's air was chilly and thick with the usual mix of city smog and chemicals while neons flickered below as traffic rumbled in the streets
And perched on a tall rooftop, you and your girlfriend, Cassandra Cain— aka Batgirl— sat side by side, eating a meal together as a break from patrol
Cassandra was sitting cross-legged, still in full Batgirl gear— except for her mask, which sat on her lap as she quietly chewed her food. Even now Cassandra was on high alert. But with you, she... relaxed. At least a little.
"You talk a lot when we patrol." she muttered, glancing at you with a small smirk “But... I like it.”
But before the cuteness of that moment could fully set, a crackle from the Cassandra's radio interrupted, intercepting GCPD's signals
"All units: Arkham escapee sighted. "The Trickster", Male. Approximately 40s. Reported drinking alone at a local Bar, dressed in his costume. Subject unstable."
Cass was already standing before the dispatcher finished the sentence, pulling her mask back on
“We go. Now."
The bar was pretty hidden into a quiet part of the Narrows.
You and Cassandra landed quietly on the roof before slipping inside through the rear...
And there he was.
The Trickster sat alone at the bar, wearing a faded, withered costume. But now he didn't look threatening anymore, he was just sipping from a glass, muttering to himself while the TV played an old show on mute
Cassandra’s hand tensed near her utility belt— ready to strike— and muttered to you
“Former Villain. He’s violent.”
But you stepped forward, gently raising a hand to stop Cassandra...
And you spoke to him.
The Trickster blinked up at you, before slowly recognized your suit. He laughed weakly, saying something about how you were "the one with the jokes". His voice slurred slightly, but his words weren’t hostile.... Just tired
But he began to talk with you... And you listened. And slowly, you convinced him to go back to Arkham. Simply by offering him a hand.
All while Cassandra watched in silence
Now, after bringing him back to Arkham, you and Cassandra stood on another rooftop. Cass was standing beside you, arms crossed, before finally speaking
“You could’ve let me take him down.” she said flatly “But... You... helped him.”
She stepped closer, her tone softening a little
“He was unstable. Dangerous. But... you treated him like a normal person."
Cass looked at you for a long moment before continuing
“...Proud of you. I like that... About you. That's why I love you."
