Art and Math were total opposites.

There’s no debating it, art is subjective and it’s hard to grade. It was more like a drawing class rather than an art class since, as much as you wanted to, you weren’t allowed to give the students enough freedom to make true art, lest you get scolded by the principal. You already don’t get paid enough, you don’t need to waste your time on listening to the principal repeat the same words like a broken record for an hour instead of cleaning up your classroom.

And then there was the Maths teacher, his classroom was right next to yours. He was… something? He wasn’t pleasant. Not one bit. So, of course, once you graded all your students art you would compare them with Mr. Kunikida’s students and their grades. A teacher rivalry. Sure, it was immature, but he was so strict, so calculating, so… boring. He thought there was always one answer to everything, which opposed your mindset.

It’s not like the faculty hated you either, you were great friends with the drama teacher and you had even made friends with the history and science teachers. But damn did Kunikida find a way to piss you off…. If you could you’d find a replacement for him, but that wasn’t in your control. As many letters as you sent to the principal about how much of a dick he was, he’d never get fired!

So, naturally, once the semester was close to its end and your students had the hardest assignment yet, you just had to make sure they knew everything. A poster on the wall with all the basics like remembering to sketch lightly, break down shapes, simplify, etc. and another poster with a color wheel, explaining color theory basics, and color pallets. You had to be the best teacher you could to make sure everyone would ace it, even Toby in the back who never tried.

The final assignment? A theme, and then they were given complete freedom to make whatever they wanted. And the math kids next door had the biggest math test yet. Now, after finishing grading all the pieces, it was time to compare…
