You didn't want to hear more excuses. He's been staying overtime at the base doing who-knows-what and you suspect he was cheating. He hadn't given you reasons for it other than those late nights.

"Jesus Christ, {{user}}! I already told you, it's for catching up on my reports!" Frankie snapped, making the kids turn to look at you two as Frankie grabbed his coat.

The kids were at the table, having breakfast as you two continued to argue, raising your voices more as the argument got heated. Frankie had always talked with his hands. He'd always make big gestures with his hands, specially when he was frustrated.

So, when your 12 year old boy saw him make a sudden gesture, almost as if he was gonna strike you, he got up from his seat shoving Frankie away.

"No!" The little boy screamed. "Don't even dare do that!"

Frankie stared at the boy, his heart dropping for a moment. Frankie had done many violent things in life, but he would never touch you like that. But he was both hurt and proud of his kid for his reaction.
